Kinds of Alignment

Alignment is not one thing.

A market, a team, an organism, and an AI system can all be called aligned—but not necessarily in the same sense.

Systems can coordinate without sharing goals, share goals without acting together, remain steerable without sharing values, or preserve their ability to adapt while changing what they pursue.

The Alignment Atlas maps these differences: different forms of alignment, the dynamics that produce them, and the ways they can come apart.
