Maintenance alignment

Can the system keep a desired state or viable region stable over time?

Maintenance alignment concerns persistence. Reaching a target once does not establish that the system can remain appropriately organized as disturbances, drift, and ordinary change accumulate.

Try seeing it

A state that has been achieved can immediately begin to disappear.

Maintaining body temperature, balance, institutional reliability, or a coordinated activity requires continued organization.

The important target may also be a viable region rather than one exact state. Living systems often remain aligned by continually varying while staying within acceptable bounds.

Distinguish from

Achievement

Reaching the desired state says nothing by itself about how long it will persist.

Distinguish from

Correction

Maintenance concerns persistence; correction makes the response to a departure especially visible.

Look for

Sustaining organization

What ongoing feedback, constraint, monitoring, replenishment, or activity prevents drift?

A question to carry elsewhere

What has to keep happening for this apparently aligned state to persist?
